Dear Fellow Woman Leaders,
I will be hosting a
Mindful Yoga Retreat here on beautiful
Salt Spring Island September 18-20th where we will be practicing insight meditation, yoga, breath-work, silence and dialogue in exploration of the questions "
What does it mean to be really true to ourselves?" "What does it mean to live without tension?" all held in the loving and exquisitely beautiful container of Stowel Lake Farm retreat center.
I have recently completed a two-year in-de…

If you have been devasted by a broken relationship, well, this blogs for you. Are you a woman of God who has been taken for a loop through the Big D - Divorce? Are you trapped in the Lake of Despondency and Despair?
Married myself for almost 2 decades, serving in the ministry, Chrisitan principal, worship leader, etc., I got lost in the LOOP too. The most devastating, unimaginable thing happened to me....I was still in love, he was not. How could God allow this to happen? This is a fair questio…

How many of us have gone out ready to win the world, full of hope, dreams, and ambitions only to return gleaning sheaves of empty hopes and promises? Raped and victimized by this thing call life? That education you invested so much time and money or that marriage of many years that ended up in heart-breaking divorce, the ministry your poured into, the people you faithfully served that turned out to be a disappointment, the business deal that never took off, or the business that went bankrupt? I was the Queen of Masks until I had to find the bags, the shoes, and the hat to match. I got tired of pretending. Pretending all was well, hiding behind the smiles, and the articulate speech, until the Lord got my undivided attention with a truth that rocked my world. Read

I came across this lovely poem below today as I browsed Dede Henley's
The Inspiration to Lead website. Dede is the author of
The Secret of Sovereignty. This book is about the freedom to choose, and how women leaders have learned to blend their natural leadership competencies with the archetypal energies of the feminine. The Secret of Sovereignty offers a roadmap to help women make a successful journey to…

For those of you interested in the social network but who couldn't be on the call this morning, here are some nuggets of our conversation:
•Setting up the social network was a relatively pain-free, easy and fun learning experience for me personally, and those of us on the call were glad to have the network in place.
•We like the idea of a social network, and appreciate being able to learn about all the wonderful women here, to see each other's faces, to read our profiles, and to be able to exc…

Last night I attended a screening of the documentary, It's Time Women Joined Hands Against Domestic Violence in Africa. At times disturbing, at times uplifting, the documentary was fast paced and informative. It's the result of collaboration between the BC Law Courts Education Society, the South African National Prosecuting Authority and the Ethiopian Women Lawyers Association. If you get the chance to see it, do! You can help the women in Ethiopia by sharing this information and making a donati…

Thoughtful question by Debbie about what qualities women bring to leadership. Would there be more peace in the world? What did Kofi Annan mean when he said the future of the world depends on women. When I first heard that at the revival, I thought about sustainable village projects like the Green Trust carries out, and about Grameen Bank. But maybe it has to do more with the way women act and react. Maybe we can bring peace to the world.
I've just started reading Peace Begins With Me, by Ted Kun…

Since attending the 'revival' I've been thinking about what it means to me to be a leader as a woman. And perhaps this isn't even the right question - is the question who are we as women leaders? Who am I as a woman who is a leader? Are there really universal qualities of leadership women naturally (at our best) bring to our roles?
I find myself in a new leadership role with my professional association and so it's even more top of mind for me. In the few short weeks I've been in my role, I've r…

“I believe we can change the world if we start listening to one another again. Simple, honest, human conversation where we each have a chance to speak, where we each feel heard, and where we each listen well to our experiences, hopes and fears. This is how great changes begin.” Meg Wheatley, Turning to One Another: Simple Conversations to Restore Hope to the Future
Almost two years ago when last I heard Margaret Wheatley present in Vancouver, I wrote down this resonant quote from her tal…
